Posted: 11 December 2019
The summer holidays are fast approaching! With less than one week until all schools are officially broken up for 2019, what have you got planned for the kids over the summer break?
To help ease the pre-holiday panic, we thought we would share our top tips to ensure these summer holidays are the perfect balance of fun and relaxation for both parents and kids!
Establish a routine
Having a routine in place during the holidays is a great way to keep things organized and the chaos at bay. Something as small as eating breakfast at the same time each day will provide some structure and gives parents a time when they know things can be done. Keeping a consistent morning routine is also a good way to make going back to school in the new year a lot easier, especially when it comes to getting the kids out of bed on their first day.
Balance
As much as the kids would like, you can't have an awesome day filled with fun activities each and every day of the holidays. Otherwise you and your wallet will both be feeling it come the start of the school year in 2020. That's why it is so important to maintain balance throughout the holidays. If possible, it is always a great help to plan out your weeks so there is a mix of days at home as well as fun activities, giving the kids plenty of time to refuel and relax in between each day out.
Summer holiday programs
Summer holiday programs are a perfect way to keep the kids active and learning over the long holiday break. They also give parents the opportunity to tick some items off of the errands list or take a well-deserved day off. With a whole range of activities available in Perth, these holiday activities will have the kids learning new skills and meeting new friends along the way!
Coordinate with parents
The kids always enjoy spending a night or a few days with their best friends! As parents these sleepovers can be a blessing in disguise and it helps to coordinate with other parents so you both get a night off. The kids will keep each other occupied when staying at your house, while visiting their friends for the night will give you some time to knock things off the to-do list or have a well-deserved relaxing night in.
Minimize screen time
Balance is great! That's why it is important to ensure the kids enjoy a schools holidays filled with a healthy mix of different activities. Activities including sports, time spent outside, hanging with friends and family as well as downtime to let their imagination roam free. Keeping a close eye on their daily screen time will also give kids the chance to experience boredom and find something new and creative to do, outside of their electronic devices.
