Get to know our instructor - Madi

Posted: 18 December 2021

Meet Madi, another member of our Swim School Team. Her knowledge, experience and friendly approach make her ideally suited to the important job of teaching your child to swim.

Get to know Madi

Q: How long have you been a swim instructor?

I have been a swim instructor for approximately 3 years.

Q: What swim levels do you teach?

I teach a wide range of swimming levels at our swim school.

From our toddlers/preschool swimmers and school-aged levels 1 – 7, to our Carnival Squad and Advanced Senior Squad. I also teach Private Adult lessons with swimmers who have different goals and skill levels.

Q: What are your certifications?

I have a variety of certifications to provide the best lessons to all of those I teach.

  • AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety License
  • AUSTSWIM Teacher of Competitive Strokes License
  • AUSTSWIM Assessor License
  • RLSWA Teaching People with Autism
  • RLSWA Epilepsy and Swimming
  • RLSWA Provide First Aid
  • RLSWA Provide CPR (Resuscitation)

Q: What is the best part about teaching at HBF Stadium?

The best part about teaching at HBF Stadium is the sense of community not only amongst swim instructors, but other staff members around the venue. I really like getting to speak to everyone, from those at Reception, The Lemon Tree Café, and other instructors apart of our variety of programs at HBF Stadium. This makes me look forward to coming into work every day to have fun and enjoy the work that I do.

Q: Why do you think it is so important for everyone to become a competent swimmer?

Especially living in Australia, becoming a competent swimmer and understanding basic water safety is very important. These necessary skills allow everyone to enjoy an integral part of the Australian lifestyle in a safe manner. Swimming lessons is a wonderful environment for all ages to gain independence and confidence in and around the water.

Q: What is something people may not know about you?

An accomplishment that I am proud of but not many people know about is, I was awarded the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Award several years ago.

Q: If you could be anyone else for a day who would it be and why?

I would be a cast member of Wicked! The Musical on Broadway. So that I could perform on Broadway and have fun with other cast members, whilst also being able explore New York.

Q: Who is your sporting idol?

It’s a difficult choice but if I had to choose only one, it would be Keesja Gofers. She is a two-time Australian Olympic Water Polo player, whose ability to balance her sport, doing other things she loves and giving back to the community is really inspiring to me.

As well as our knowledgeable, experienced and friendly instructors like Madi, at HBF Stadium we offer classes with low ratios to ensure maximised learning. Swimming classes at HBF Stadium are continuous with a six week break in the December/January school holidays when our Summer Holiday Swim takes off, so kids are consistently progressing their skills.
