Aquatics LED lighting upgrades

school swimming carnival

Updated: 25 May 2022

We are upgrading the lighting in the Tom Hoad Aquatic Hall to provide an improved experience for all pool users and ensure compliance with FINA standards.

Works will begin on Thursday 26 May and will run until Friday 12 August, with an elevated work platform and scaffolding being utilised for the works. There will be some lane and pool area restrictions throughout the project.

The general pool hall and grandstand access will be maintained and managed as required throughout the works.

The works will ensure reduced energy and maintenance costs for the venue, reduced energy consumption as well as instantaneous full brightness when the lights are turned on.

Project updates will be shared here, please check this page for ongoing updates on the status of the project.

We look forward to delivering this important project to you in the coming months.

Updated: 9 June

Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 June alternate access

We have begun works to upgrade the lighting in the indoor pool hall. In order to do this scaffolding will be erected over the grandstand early next week and will remain in place during June.

On Monday and Tuesday access to the indoor 50m pool, dive pool, Evolve Studio, Cycle Studio and both outdoor pools will change slightly. You will be directed across the bridge and along the northern side of the pool, between the 50m pool and dive pool and into the corridor.

All pools and change rooms will remain open as normal.

We look forward to turning on the new brighter and more energy efficient lights for you soon.

Updated: 1 July

The project schedule is currently on track and works are almost complete for the light replacement on the northern side of the pool.

Works for the new light replacement on the southern side of the pool have begun, and we anticipate that works for the dive pool scaffolding will soon commence in the coming weeks.

The works will see the reduction of light fittings from 120 metal halide lights at 1000 watts output each, down to 39 new LED lights which will average 650 watts output each.

We look forward to delivering improved environmental performance and greater energy efficiency at HBF Stadium.
