5 life lessons your kids will learn from swimming

Posted: 30 July 2019

Living in the water-loving city of Perth, swimming lessons have become not only a great hobby for kids but a necessity to attend when growing up. As well as ensuring children can enjoy the water and swim safe, lessons can also teach kids some of the most vital and important life lessons they can take with them into their teen and adult years. Some of these lessons include:

Water Safety

In addition to equipping kids with the necessary skills to swim, lessons are great for the development of water safety. Water safety is so important as it involves the education of procedures to remain safe around water. This includes any rules that are not associated with swim techniques, such as only swimming with adult supervision and the correct way to enter and exit the pool. The proper development of water safety knowledge is critical as it ensures children understand how to swim safely for the rest of their lives.

Active habits

Swimming lessons are a great introduction for children into the world of fitness and physical activity. With weekly classes, kids will start to form a routine of staying active with lessons focusing on full body fitness and improving coordination and balance. Encouraging children to get into this active habit from a young age will equip them with the necessary skills and mindset to continue leading a healthy and active lifestyle.

Social Skills

How often do you get through an entire day without interacting with those around you? Whether you realize it or not, every single day we are using the social skills and cues we started developing from a young age and an excellent place for children to begin building on these social skills is swimming lessons. Lessons provide the perfect environment for kids to learn how to interact with others, work as part of a team and make their first group of friends. Swimming classes will also open up a whole world of social opportunities for kids such as birthday pool parties and summer days spent at the beach.

Time management

We have all experienced a period in our lives when we certainly did not have free time on our hands. Whether you are balancing work, studies, raising a family, sports, socializing and everything in between it pays to know how to effectively prioritize your time. A sport that will help children develop the invaluable skill of time management is none other than swimming lessons!  Starting off with something as small as making sure they are ready for their swimming lessons when it is time to go, will kick start their journey to developing great time management skills they will undoubtedly use as they enter their teenage and adult years.

From continuing their swim lessons, kids will learn how to press on when the going gets tough. Just like any other sport, kids will often notice a stroke that they perform particularly well at, and another they struggle with. Through the identification of these challenges and sticking to their lessons to focus on consistent improvement, children will start to notice their skills improving and that they can achieve anything they put their mind to.

Start the development of you child's life skills with swimming lessons at HBF Stadium! A continuous swim program ensures the endless progression of swim technique as well as life skill development. Find out more about our swim school here.
