4 reasons to keep the goggles on this winter

Group of happy kids swimming underwater

As we dive head first into the winter months it becomes harder to keep the kids motivated to continue swimming. However, this time of year is just as important for technique development and water confidence as the summer months.

The cold wind and wet hair after classes is enough for children to put up a fight about attending their swim classes throughout winter. Although, the winter weather may be less motivating to swim in than the summer heat, sticking to lessons during the cooler months does come with plenty of advantages for children. Some of these include;

Head-start for summer:

With every year starting to fly by faster than the one before, in the blink of an eye it will be the start of summer! To help avoid the last minute panic to brush up the kids skills before the warm weather rolls in, just keep swimming! As well as ensuring your child's technique and water confidence is consistently improving, continual lessons gives parents a peace of mind when around water as accidents can happen year-round.

Skill progression:

When children take an extended period of time away from their swim lessons they will notice a significant regression of their skills from where they left off last time. To ensure your child's skills keep progressing and their swim abilities stay level with their peers, continue attending lessons throughout winter. As well as advancing their technique, children will become more confident within the water environment and won't need to stay in a level longer than needed or pick up on an unfinished class.

Fitness:

It can be hard to motivate children to stay active during the cooler months with many sporting seasons wrapping up as the winter weather sets in. Swimming lessons provide a great alternative as they offer a consistent and effective source of full body cardiovascular fitness that will ensure the kids stay active year round.

Social benefits:

Throughout their swim lessons children will have formed new friendships with other students in their class. This is why maintaining their classes throughout winter is important as it will help sustain these newly formed friendships and ensure continual development and utilization of their social skills. Winter lessons will also keep kids at the same learning level as their friends, making it likely for them to move on to the next level together.

As the winter weather starts to roll around it also helps to keep in mind a swim school that offers high quality indoor swim facilities. An indoor facility makes swimming year-round easy as the pool temperature remains consistent, so the kids won't even notice the cold!
